Misao`s first Daicon part one

19 July 2009 by misao 8 Comments

It has been a week after daicon. I was lurking all over /as/, CF forum and other people blogs and still stuck on how I am gonna write my Daicon report. There was a lot of happening and drama happened and sincerely I don`t know how I am gonna show the world what had happened in Daicon. Being a very small private blog, and being very new to both anime/manga in general also to Malaysian anime/manga/cosplayers/otaku community, I am very curious on how people will interprate what I am writing on this blog.

But thinking about it again, I might just be sincere to myself. I bought the AWSM ticket as a Nagato/Chiaki fan and Daicon was a very memorable event for me. It may be the worst event for some people, but let me share with this blog readers on the event from my point of view, not in a formal way but more on my personnel experience during the event hanging out with all my beloved otaku freinds and comrades.

Also I want to thank Makie for his hard work and great effort to write a very detailed report and upload sets of awsm pictures on the previous two posts. Again I want to apologize whom I passed my card, and came to this blog just to see your cosplay/booth picture was not here. I hope I can upload everyone on this post, and really hope that you like my photos and might as well comment about them because I am still learning on all this photography shit.

Chapter One: Good Morning Daicon

The night before I was not sleeping very well. I was worried and was also excited on Daicon. And I was already awake 5:30 AM in the morning. Spammed tfm chat, and Elfenrir was still awake haha. I found out that Steno from /as/ got some Chihara Minori DVD and I beg him on SMS to sell his to me and he promised he will bring it to Daicon. At around 7:30 AM I started my journey to pick up my freind ElFenrir (he has become my regular passanger for any otaku related event since Cyberfusion haha..)and reached his house at around 8:00 AM and move on to Cyberjaya with some techno anime songs playing loudly on my Myvi speakers^^

Not like cyberfusion, I didn`t notice any banner or buntings leading the traffic to Daicon especially from the major highway exit.I think they should spend some of the sponsor money on these because I saw a lot of huge buntings at the hall itself and they are kinda redundant.I got ElFenrir as my GPS becase he is working at Cyberjaya and was the ex-student of MMU he knows the place very well. Only for those who are coming to MMU for their first time, might be a bit of diffculty to find the place. So in terms of event location and accessibility, Daicon lacks on this. Some potentional visitor might be too lazy to drive around 100KM back and forth from KL just to enjoy the event.

When I arrived at Daicon it`s still 9:00 AM but the ticket redemption counter were already busy with people lining up to get their tickets.

Still no long queue here because for those not going for Chihara Minori Q&A session, the entrance fee was free which can be both good thing and bad thing to this event. Good thing is anyone can go in and look around and the bad thing is, as we know, even how well we masked it, there is always a bit of sensitive side about Japanese anime/manga/cosplay especially figurines (thanks to the brilliant tabloid misleading report on how kids nowadays can get their playboy like sexy plastic easily..) and there might be people who are unaware of what they are getting. Of course we can put long text of disclaimer but some people just don`t really care and we might end up with some makcik or pakcik complaining on the tabloids regarding  how their childs might be ruined by visiting an event at MMU Cyberjaya.

These two fellas helped the awsm people getting their awsm ticket which is no more a handwritten A4 paper ticket:P

Here is CZero being very happy with his Enthusiast ticket.

01-090711-6

Bunch of tags and I got my Blogger tag from em for the first time >< Who knows one day I will be hanging the official media tag around my neck? ^^

01-0907111

Everybody at the hall entrance was greeted by this gentleman. Might be even better if they prepare some maids/bunny girls holding the plackard :P

01-090711-5

Some /as/ members who already arrived. Can see a glimpse of our PR director, Mr. Kurogane at the back, being busy walking around.

01-090711-32

More /as/ members at the entrace. Dark steno sold me his Message 01 DVD and I was all set for my Minorin autograph session.

01-090711-7

Linkin from wakarimasenlol seems very happy here ^^

01-090711-8

This is my friend also TFM regular spammer, Evangel Lim who came all the way from Penang. LOL at Azumanga neko hat. Envy his awsm face konata badge. I will steal that from him on next convention haha..

01-090711-9

Does helmet and goggles became a requirement for anime conventions nowadays? :P Maybe he need it to sparta his way with other otaku at KKnM (Kareshi Kanojyu no Mise).

01-090711-12

Another placard guy. Cute earpiece you got there! Again might have been better if they got Mikuru and Nagato holding these and walks around :P

01-090711-10

Leehg and franstormer from TFM chat. Well prepared with their DSLR gears to hunt the lolis capture the event ^^;

01-090711-11

The wall of gashapon at the hall entrance by Bandai official distributor Litt Tak. Some of the visitors spent some of their few Ringgits to kill time before Daicon officially opens to later spend more of their Ringgits at KKnM inside :P

Chapter one point one : Before the kickoff

Just to put some pictures of the hall slightly before everything started.

Here`s Fat Cat Lim`s GameAxis booth. It`s just behind TFM exhibition area and I end up taking a lot of pictures of this booth including bunch of his pictures singing and playing Guitar Heroes :P

01-090711-15

The other sponsor booths including MMU, Sapura and Animax.

01-090711-16

01-090711-25

Maxis here getting ready to get people using their “fast broadband”.

01-090711-17

And here is some preparation scenes of The Figure Mall booth. The exhibition was supposed to be held inside a room with a lot of glass wall and bright lighting, but they changed the plan on the previous day,  being afraid that the heat and sunlight that goes inside the room might damage their PVC figures. Besides that they also got issue on the tables provided for the exhibition, because  they were too small and quite unstable to exhibit figures. But being experienced exhibitors with a good reputation on some other big conventions in Malaysia, The Figure Mall members manage to pull the show and yet again have been one of the most popular booth with non stop visitors from the very start until the very end of Daicon.

3D girls waiting patiently before the event start :P

01-090711-18

Lots and lots of Figure labels.

01-090711-19

Aiko and Ice Cream very busy setting up the figures. Quazacolt at the back in LEFT4DEAD t-shirt probably busy feeding his Horo figures before the show starts :P

01-090711-20

Here`s Haruji ( right) setting up his nendoroids figures. He`s TFM`s long time contributor who owns probably the biggest nendoroids collection locally in Malaysia. With Guki (left) also contributing some of her nendoroids, these two contributors has provided TFM with almost every nendoroids that has been released to date. Thanks to both of you and hope to see your nendoroids in future convention.

nendo

This is EG, who contributed the whole set of oppai Queen`s Blade figures. Seems to be very busy molesting preparing his Cattleya figure.

01-090711-23

Here`s TFM boss, Kevin Choo aka moekev aka Taukeh aka Taugeh, whatever you call him, he`s the guy that made TFM happened. TFM also held a direct figure sales with very good discount price and our taugeh here was very happy with loads of Rm50 notes going inside his wallet :P

01-090711-29

The final touch from JC and they are ready to show their waifus to harian metro reporters daicon visitors.
